We are starting to get preliminary NeSA test results, as students complete testing.  We know that K-2 teachers are eager to complete assess- ment of their students, as well.

Teachers will have an opportunity to use the data we glean at our upcoming EXCELs half days.  Along with other initiatives we have implemented this year (improved Guided Reading instruction, vocabu-lary strategies, test-taking skills instruction), we should be able to set some very attainable goals for next year.

Summer Curriculum Work:

We have several teams of teachers who have submitted curriculum-writing proposals for this summer.  It is a great opportunity to use what we know from our data, along with new curriculum or just our own ideas – to write lessons and pull materials together for the upcoming year.

     So far, our topics include:

  • Common Core Standards & Grading at the Elementary School Level (a book study)
  • Developing Writing Lessons with Mentor Texts
  • Writing Writer's Workshop lessons for 5th grade
  • Designing/planning Math lessons for 1st grade - using our new Math series
  • Planning 6th grade Guided Reading and basal lessons
  • Planning HeadStart lessons

If one of these topics interests you, please contact Sharon to find out how you might join the group in planning for next year!

USING DATA

Several Liberty teachers have chosen to observe another teacher modeling such strategies as routines and procedures, guided reading, Math Talk, etc.  In debriefing with these teachers, following their observations, they have expressed amazement at all the new ideas they gleaned while observing.  We have also been impressed with how well the observers have picked up on the key components that the observed teacher implemented.

It's not too late to observe one of your colleagues.  set up a day and time with the person you'd like to observe.  Then contact Linda or Sharon to arrange coverage for your own classroom while you observe.

Implementing the Results of  NeSA & K-2 Assessment  Data

Feeling a bit rusty with your lessons on Fiction/NonFiction?  Needing help with lessons on Author's Purpose?  Our "resident" Reading Facilitator is eager to come share her ideas and expertise with your students!  Linda Daly will come to your room and model a lesson on a variety of literacy concepts and skills.  Just call or email her – or even stop her in the hall – but whichever way you choose to contact her, you will be sorely missing out, if you do not utilize her expertise!  We are so fortunate to have Linda at Liberty full time this year!
